Job summary

About the role

Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust are committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults. The post-holder will play a key role in promoting safeguarding across the Trust, using a think‑family approach, early help and prevention, while giving voice to the experience of children and adults to ensure a person‑centred and safe response.

Key responsibilities
  • Support and respond to safeguarding enquiries from the whole workforce, including children and adult directorates, community & acute services, forensic and specialist services, and volunteer support.
  • Maintain a prevention approach to keep people and families accessing KMMH services safe, inspiring confidence in service quality.
  • Collaborate with external colleagues (social care, education, housing, addiction services, primary care, etc.) to provide safeguarding leadership and expertise.
  • Contribute to local safeguarding children partnerships and adult safeguarding board activities.
  • Attend safeguarding meetings and information requests (Strategy Meetings, Child Protection Conference, MARAC, MASH, and other inter‑agency meetings).
  • Advocate and enable safeguarding within a mental health setting, ensuring safe practice and development across the organisation.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Full, valid UK driving licence and access to a car/vehicle for business purposes (unless a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 applies).
  • Experience in safeguarding across child, adult, and mental health settings.
  • Strong collaborative working skills with multi‑agency partners.
  • Knowledge of adult safeguarding, Prevention, the Mental Capacity Act, DoLS/Liberty Protection Safeguards.
