Job summary

Pertemps Education Network is seeking an experienced Safeguarding Officer for a secondary school in Newham, East London. The role covers safeguarding, welfare and confidentiality, with CPOMS used to record and monitor concerns.

The ideal candidate will have school safeguarding or pastoral experience, be able to liaise with staff and external agencies, and support the safeguarding team during staff sickness coverage. ASAP start, long-term temporary contract.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience using CPOMS for safeguarding records.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

• Record and monitor safeguarding concerns using CPOMS with confidentiality.
• Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) with escalation of child protection concerns.
• Respond to safeguarding disclosures in line with school policies.
• Liaise with students, parents, teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies when appropriate.
• Maintain detailed records of incidents, referrals, actions taken and follow-up communication.
• Support students experiencing emotional, social, behavioural or welfare difficulties.
• Identify patterns of concern and share information with safeguarding staff.
• Handle sensitive information professionally and confidentially.

Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Safeguarding Officer to join a secondary school in Newham, East London, on a long-term temporary basis to cover staff sickness. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated safeguarding professional to support the school’s safeguarding team and help ensure the safety, welfare and wellbeing of its students. The successful candidate must have previous experience working within a school safeguarding or pastoral role and be confident using CPOMS to record, monitor and manage safeguarding concerns.

Key Responsibilities

• Record, monitor and update safeguarding concerns using CPOMS, maintaining accurate and confidential records.
• Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) with the management and escalation of child protection concerns.
• Respond appropriately to safeguarding disclosures and concerns, following school policies and procedures.
• Liaise with students, parents, teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies where appropriate.
• Maintain detailed records of incidents, referrals, actions taken and follow-up communication.
• Support students experiencing emotional, social, behavioural or welfare difficulties.
• Identify patterns of concern and ensure information is shared with the appropriate safeguarding staff.
• Handle sensitive information professionally, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience in a safeguarding, pastoral, welfare or child protection role, ideally within a secondary school.
• Hands-on experience using CPOMS is essential.
• A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures in an educational setting.
• Excellent administrative, organisational and written communication skills.
• The ability to manage sensitive information and prioritise concerns appropriately.
• A professional, approachable and compassionate manner when working with young people.
• Enhanced DBS and all relevant safeguarding checks, in line with school requirements.
