Overview

Role: Safeguarding and Wellbeing Advisor

Location: Bedford College - Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary between £26,780 and £31,415 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications; 27 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays; People’s pension; Retail and Leisure Discounts; excellent professional and personal development opportunities; access to college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week - 52 or 40 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent - Full or Term Time dependent on successful candidate’s needs

About the role

We are currently seeking a Safeguarding and Wellbeing Advisor to join our Student Services department at The Bedford College Group.

  • Safeguarding & Wellbeing Support - Provide impartial advice to students, identify barriers to education, deliver short-term interventions, and maintain accurate safeguarding records using CPOMS.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration - Liaise with internal teams and external agencies, manage referrals, attend meetings, and escalate concerns in line with statutory safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Student-Centred Practice - Ensure the student experience is central to all actions, deliver wellbeing events, and support learners from enrolment through to progression.
  • Operational & Customer Service Duties - Represent the college professionally, maintain accurate safeguarding information, support enrolment and events, and ensure welcoming environments across campuses.
  • Compliance & College-Wide Engagement - Fulfil statutory duties in safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and training; participate in ID checks, invigilation, disciplinary hearings, and contribute to strategic development.
About you
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Confidently engage with students and staff at all levels, write formal/informal correspondence, and maintain a professional telephone manner.
  • Teamwork & Leadership - Work effectively within college teams, motivate others, and contribute positively to team development and collaboration.
  • Organisation & Administration - Strong planning and organisational abilities, attention to detail, high-level administrative skills, and proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Technical & Sector Knowledge - Experience in student welfare, IAG, and use of Word, Excel, and databases; holds or is working towards relevant qualifications including Youth Mental Health First Aid.
  • Personal Attributes - Friendly, flexible, reliable, with good attendance and timekeeping; able to work independently, solve problems, and adapt to changing needs.
