Job summary

House of Commons is looking for a Safeguarding Advisor to join the Safeguarding Team. You will manage referrals, maintain case records and liaise with the Police, LADO and DBS while supporting training and guidance for Parliamentary staff in a high-profile environment.

You will also drive safeguarding projects across Parliament, including QA frameworks, DBS arrangements and awareness campaigns, under supervision and an escalation framework.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 Safeguarding Qualification (or equivalent).
• Relevant professional safeguarding qualifications or closely related field.
• Experience handling casework and referrals.
• Experience liaising with external agencies and multi‑agency safeguarding frameworks.
• Ability to work under pressure and provide guidance to colleagues.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Safeguarding Advisor, you'll play a vital operational role within the UK Parliament's Safeguarding Team, helping protect children and adults at risk across the House of Commons, House of Lords and Joint Departments. This is an opportunity to apply your safeguarding expertise in a unique, high-profile environment, supporting effective casework while helping to strengthen safeguarding practice across Parliament.

You'll receive and manage safeguarding referrals and disclosures, maintain accurate case records and liaise with statutory and multi-agency partners including the Police, Local Authority Designated Officers and DBS. You'll also support safeguarding training, provide guidance to Parliamentary staff and contribute to the Safeguarding Practitioner Network.

Alongside casework, you'll take ownership of projects that improve safeguarding across Parliament, from developing quality assurance frameworks and guidance to supporting DBS arrangements and awareness campaigns. Working within a clear supervision and escalation framework, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement and meaningful organisational change.

This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, with an expectation of you spending 40% of your time in the office.

What We're Looking For

• A minimum of a Level 3 Safeguarding Qualification (or equivalent), with relevant professional qualifications in safeguarding or a closely related field.
• Experience of handling casework, referrals and strong administrative skills, with the ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Experience of liaising with external agencies or statutory partners, with an understanding of multi-agency safeguarding frameworks and the role of key agencies such as Social Care and the Police.
• Experience of taking ownership of a discrete piece of work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively and clearly with colleagues and to provide guidance to colleagues.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement in assessing and responding to safeguarding concerns, showing resilience and emotional maturity at all times.
