Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist for night shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm to 6:30am at UAB St. Vincent's East.

The role involves preparing patients and equipment, performing sleep studies, scoring and reporting results, and ensuring equipment readiness. Qualified candidates must have a current BLS, and be registered as an RPSGT (or Sleep Technologist) with ABSM/BRPT.

Qualifications

  • BLS Provider obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer date.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) with BRPT or Registered Sleep Technologist with ABSM.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient and equipment for testing and interview patient to determine sleep disorder issues.
  • Perform and document testing, monitor patient and resolve issues as needed.
  • Score, interpret and report results of sleep studies.

Education

High School diploma equivalency with 2 years cumulative experience
Associate's degree/Technical degree
4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience

Job Description

Perform basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies.

  • Prepare patient and equipment for ordered testing. Interview patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
  • Perform and document testing. Monitor patient throughout testing and intervene as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs; score, interpret and report results of sleep studies.
  • Prepare, calibrate, repair and maintain equipment required for testing. Determine and report needed repairs/replacements.
Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) with a certificate from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) or Registered Sleep Technologist with the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) required.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's
    degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
