- Experience as a Section/Site Engineer delivering civil infrastructure schemes.
- Experience working on highways, access, ground investigation, utilities interfaces or general enabling works for infrastructure projects.
- Confident managing multiple work fronts with varied constraints.
- Working towards professional accreditation (e.g., IEng or CEng with ICE) is desirable.
- CSCS.
- Strong understanding of safe excavation, HSG47 principles, and highway/traffic management interfaces.

This is a great opportunity to join a landmark clean-water infrastructure scheme that involves delivering extensive Routeways enabling works to bring a major construction programme to site. This includes permanent and temporary highway works, access routes, construction logistics corridors, surveys, ground investigations, haul roads, and coordination of utilities interfaces. As Routeways Senior Engineer, you’ll manage defined elements of the Routeways work packages, including highway modifications, traffic management, temporary/permanent access routes, construction haul roads, survey works, ground investigations, utilities interfaces, and enabling works. You’ll provide technical assurance, manage surveys and permits, coordinate subcontractors, and help drive programme certainty.
Key Responsibilities
- Embed topographical, PAS128, GI and ecological survey information and ensure site teams build to the latest data.
- Coordinate and support all ground investigation works, ensuring safe systems, permits, logging accuracy and record management.
- Manage survey control, setting‑out assurance, and subcontractor survey oversight; maintain red‑lines, as‑built and QA records.
- Support with the delivery of temporary and permanent highway works, lay‑bys, haul routes and construction access roads.
- Coordinate traffic management design, road space bookings, TTROs, permits and stakeholder approvals.
- Manage temporary works requirements for roadways, crossings, retaining structures, excavations.
- Interface with utilities teams where Routeways works cross or require diversion/protection of services.
- Apply HSG47 controls for service identification, safe excavation and permit‑to‑dig; coordinate trial holes and verification.
- Ensure asset owner requirements are understood and that all approvals, inspections and protection measures are delivered.
- Support with the management and structuring of all utilities data collected, in line with PAS128 requirements.
- Prepare method statements, RAMS, permits and ITPs for Routeways activities.
- Drive programme certainty through detailed planning, daily coordination and 4‑week lookahead development.
- Maintain daily records, progress data, quality documentation and support the commercial team with evidence for change.
- Ensure subcontractor safe systems of work are implemented to Tier 1 standards and statutory obligations.
- Manage quality documentation, inspection/testing records and handover certification for highways, GI, survey and access works.
- Maintain public protection and safe operation of live highways and construction routes.
- Support daily management of subcontractors.
- Liaise with designers, temporary works engineers, highway authorities, utilities owners, ecologists, and local stakeholders.
- Raise RFIs, NCRs and change requests as required.
