Job description

An opportunity exists for a General Rotational Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our Therapy Service team at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Hospital. The Therapy Services Department is committed to providing an excellent environment for professional growth and offers regular training, supervision and support for career progression. Our overall aim is to provide the highest standards of care to patients through the provision of evidence informed practice.

The role requires HCPC registration. The post holder will provide high quality clinical care to patients in line with the Trust values and professional regulations, working as an autonomous practitioner to assess, treat and manage a designated caseload while maintaining up‑to‑date records and using evidence‑based principles to plan, implement and evaluate interventions.

The post holder will experience rotations in Respiratory, Medical Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal outpatients, Hand Therapy, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Paediatrics, Emergency Department, Pelvic Health, and at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The post holder is expected to consolidate and develop knowledge and skills through participation in CPD and to contribute to the 7‑day working and out‑of‑hours on‑call service.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your work, including patient management.
  • Carry and prioritise your own designated clinical caseload as an autonomous practitioner,.
  • Obtain valid, informed consent from patients and work within a legal framework for those lacking capacity.
  • Use a range of verbal and non‑verbal communication tools to maximise patient rehabilitation potential, including with those with complex communication difficulties, mental health problems, or whose first language is English.
  • Maintain professional behaviour and promote a positive image of the Trust.
  • Comply with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health and Care Professions Council codes.
  • Maintain HCPC registration.
  • Engage in continuous professional development via self‑education, reflective practice and active participation in in‑service training; maintain a CPD portfolio.
Organisational Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage daily caseloads, prioritising clinical work, meetings and training, and working flexibly according to staffing levels.
  • Carry an identified bleep as required by rotation, and respond to unpredictable work patterns and frequent interruptions.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other physiotherapists and other multidisciplinary team members, coordinating intervention for joint sessions where required.
  • Ensure timely communication of assessment findings, treatment and outcomes to other disciplines via social services reports, discharge letters, etc.
Effort Requirements
  • Carry out assessment and treatment using manual and therapeutic handling techniques requiring moderate to high physical effort and concentration, frequently throughout each working day.
  • Comply with the Trust manual handling policy.
  • Work alone at times, depending on rotation, e.g. domiciliary settings.
  • Deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety or aggression due to pain, fear or dementia.
General
