Job summary

Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Occupational Therapists to join an established mental health rotation across inpatient and community settings in Leeds and York. Roles include a range of service areas and flexible working arrangements to suit candidate needs.

You will undertake core OT duties, maintain HCPC registration, and contribute to professional development within a supervised preceptorship framework.

Qualifications

• Accredited qualification in Occupational Therapy (Degree/Diploma) and HCPC Registration.
• Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of mental health recovery and the OT process.
• Full UK driving licence with access to a suitable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Utilise core occupational therapy skills to provide intervention appropriate to the team.
• Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of intervention for defined Service Users.
• Understand and apply the OT process with appropriate risk assessments.
• Lead activity groups and coordinate care packages across MDT.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and engage in supervision/preceptorship.

We are currently recruiting for Occupational Therapists to join an established mental health rotation with various positions available in both inpatient and community’s in LYPFT as well as one post being within the Citywide rotation which works across the four organisations including LYPFT, LCH, Leeds City Council and LTHT.

We are looking for individuals who are;

• Passionate about occupation and its role in mental health
• Able and willing to engage in flexible working, including shifts and weekends.
• Able to work in various team and on different sites across Leeds and York

Our mental health rotation offers a great start to a career in mental health Occupational Therapy, with opportunities to work in various groups of service users in different stages in their care pathway.

Main duties of the job

You will be supported in your personal and professional development via clinical supervision, training and other Continuing Professional Development opportunities. The Trust has an established Preceptorship Programme for new graduates offering specific support and develop throughout your first year.

For some of the roles available, there may be an occupational requirement for the post holder to have a full UK drivers’ licence and access to a suitable vehicle. We encourage applications from candidates both with and without a drivers licence, however, please note because of the above if you do not hold a UK drivers licence you may not be able to be considered for all available opportunities.

We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Although each rotation setting differs and posts may require working across ward and community settings, there are common expectations and responsibilities for you as an Occupational Therapist.

To utilise your core occupational therapy skills to provide occupational therapy intervention appropriate to the team you are based in.

To be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of intervention for defined Service Users, both on an individual basis and within a group setting

This will include:

ü Clear understanding of the OT process

ü Knowledge of theoretical frameworks, models and approaches and OT assessment tools

ü Using activities to promote health, wellbeing and function

ü Planning, organising and leading activity groups

ü Analysing and adapting environments to increase function and social participation

You will have an accredited qualification in occupational therapy and HCPC registration, which you take responsibility to maintain this by meeting RCOT and HCPC standards.

To understand and use appropriate risk assessments

To actively engage in the occupational therapy professional support structure e.g. clinical supervision and preceptorship development programme

To maintain accurate and appropriate clinical records in accordance with professional standards

To gain consent and build a collaborative relationship with Service Users that will promote engagement in the therapeutic process adapting to barriers in communication which Service Users may present with e.g. emotional, psychological, physical

To co-ordinate and communicate care packages or treatment plans for defined Service Users both verbally through multi-disciplinary meetings, team integration and telephone and non-verbally through care planning, reports and documentation. Also through carers and other agencies.

To contribute to the day to day running of the team you are based in

Delegate safely, be aware of own gaps in competencies seeking support when required

• You must at all times comply with the Leeds and York Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust Health & Safety Policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trust’s risk incident reporting system
• You must take personal responsibility for your own development by ensuring that continuous professional development remains a priority. You will undertake all mandatory training required for the role and participate in supervision/appraisal
• You are required to act at all times in accordance with the Trust values
• Some rotations are community based so will involve you travelling between sites and to service user homes
• Some rotations will require you to work shifts across seven days
• Whilst we aim to take your preferences into account, you may be required to work in a setting you did not preference
• Depending on service demands and your own development needs you may also be required to move to a different rotation at any time, or to remain in your setting for longer than 9 months
• The rotation covers a large geographical area, including York services and you may be required to work in any of the settings included.
• The settings included on the rotation are subject to change

Fixed Term Contracts for existing NHS Employees – temporary contracts for employees of LYPFT, or colleagues joining from another NHS Trust, will be offered on a secondment basis wherever possible. In the event this is not possible, an FTC would be issued and this would require a break in service of two weeks.

The purpose of a temporary is role could be for maternity cover, temporary funding or some other reason. At the end of which the need for the temporary work will cease. Temporary roles can stop, be extended and/or made permanent at any point during the period of work. Should the role become permanent then the post-holder will be informed of the process to be followed to convert the position to a permanent one.
