Job summary

Octopus Energy Group in Portadown is recruiting a Rotational Moulding Operator to join our manufacturing team. You will load moulds, set up and monitor rotation moulding processes, and inspect finished products to ensure quality. This role requires precision, adherence to safety rules, and strong teamwork to meet production targets.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or experience in machine operation or plastics manufacturing is desirable.
  • Previous experience operating rotational moulding machines or similar equipment preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in a manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup and Preparation: Prepare moulds and equipment according to specifications; load materials; set parameters for production.
  • Machine Operation: Operate rotational moulding machines; monitor process; adjust settings to optimise production and quality; troubleshoot minor issues.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished products for defects and ensure compliance with standards; implement corrective actions.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean moulds and equipment; perform routine maintenance and replace worn parts.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols; wear PPE; report hazards to supervisor.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain production records; complete production logs; communicate with supervisors.

Overview

At Octopus Energy Heating we’re developing a home heating revolution through innovative heat pumps that will significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels and bring a cleaner, more sustainable world.

As a Rotational Moulding Operator, you will be responsible for operating rotational moulding machines to produce high‑quality plastic products. Your role involves loading moulds with raw materials, setting up and monitoring the moulding process, and ensuring that finished products meet quality standards. Attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work effectively in a team are essential for success in this position.

What you’ll do
  • Machine Setup and Preparation
    • Prepare moulds and equipment for production according to specifications.
    • Load raw materials, such as plastic resins and additives, into the moulds.
    • Set up machine parameters, including temperature, rotation speed, and cycle time, based on production requirements.
  • Machine Operation
    • Operate rotational moulding machines to produce plastic products.
    • Monitor machine operation to ensure that the moulding process runs smoothly and efficiently.
    • Adjust machine settings as necessary to optimise production and maintain product quality.
    • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Quality Control
    • Inspect finished products for defects, such as air bubbles, warping, or incomplete filling.
    • Ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications.
    • Implement corrective actions to address quality issues and prevent defects from recurring.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance
    • Clean moulds, equipment, and work areas regularly to prevent contamination and maintain hygiene standards.
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks on rotational moulding machines, such as lubrication and calibration.
    • Replace worn‑out or damaged machine parts as necessary to ensure optimal performance.
  • Safety Compliance
    • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times to prevent accidents and injuries.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection while operating machinery.
    • Identify and report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor or safety officer.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records of production activities, including machine settings, production quantities, and quality inspections.
    • Complete production reports and logs as required by management.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure smooth workflow and timely resolution of issues.
