Job summary

Caledonian Recruitment Group Ltd is seeking a part-time Roofing Designer / Architectural Drafter in London, offering hybrid/remote work with occasional site visits. The role spans 2–3 days per week with a pro-rata salary and a flexible arrangement for high-end roof projects.

You will deliver bespoke roof designs, produce 3D renderings, and ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, London's planning constraints, and party-wall considerations.

Qualifications

• Experience in architectural design, structural engineering, or specialised roofing design.
• Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and London planning restrictions.
• Ability to work across 2–3 days per week with minimal supervision.
• Proficient in CAD software and 3D rendering tools.

Responsibilities

• Bespoke Roof Design: Create comprehensive architectural drawings, structural blueprints, and detailed layouts for various roof types (including slate, tile, standing seam metal, green roofs, and flat roof systems).
• 3D Visualisation: Generate high-resolution 3D digital renderings and models to help clients visualize designs before construction.
• Technical Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with UK Building Regulations, London planning permissions, conservation area guidelines, and party wall constraints.
• Specification & Drainage: Calculate structural loads, wind/weather resistances, and design smart ventilation and drainage/waterproofing schemes.
• Client & Contractor Collaboration: Liaison with clients, structural engineers, and contractors to ensure design feasibility and seamless handover.

• Local Regulations Knowledge: A solid understanding of UK Building Regulations and London-specific planning restrictions.


• Independent Worker: Ability to manage your own workload efficiently across 2-3 days, delivering highly accurate, mistake-free technical blueprints.
