Job summary

Infinitive Resources is recruiting an experienced Diesel Engine Engineer to support a major rail maintenance operation based in Belfast.

The successful candidate will work on MAN D2876 diesel engines fitted to Class 3000 trains, providing technical expertise across fault diagnosis, engine repairs, overhauls and reliability improvements.

This role would suit an experienced diesel engineer with a strong mechanical background, ideally within rail or heavy diesel engines.

Qualifications

• Experience with diesel engines, diagnostics and overhauls.
• Familiar with MAN D2876 engines is advantageous.
• Rail, rolling stock or heavy diesel engine experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out technical fault diagnosis on diesel engines.
• Support engine repairs, rebuilds and overhauls.
• Perform engine health checks and condition assessments.
• Identify recurring faults and suggest reliability improvements.
• Provide guidance to maintenance teams and mentor engineers.
• Support ongoing reliability and performance of diesel engines.

Diesel Engine Engineer - Rail | Belfast

Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland

Contract: Initial 6-month contract

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday

Rate: Negotiable, dependent on experience

The Opportunity

Infinitive Resources is recruiting an experienced Diesel Engine Engineer to support a major rail maintenance operation based in Belfast.

The successful candidate will work on MAN D2876 diesel engines fitted to Class 3000 trains, providing technical expertise across fault diagnosis, engine repairs, overhauls and reliability improvements.

This role would suit an experienced diesel engineer with a strong mechanical background, ideally within rail, heavy diesel engines or similar industries.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out technical fault diagnosis and troubleshooting on diesel engines.
• Support major engine repairs, rebuilds and overhauls.
• Conduct engine health checks, inspections and condition assessments.
• Identify recurring faults and recommend reliability improvements.
• Investigate mechanical issues and determine appropriate repairs.
• Provide technical support and guidance to maintenance teams.
• Share knowledge and mentor engineers where required.
• Support the ongoing reliability and performance of diesel engines.

Experience Required

• Strong experience working with diesel engines, including diagnostics, repairs and overhauls.
• Previous experience with MAN diesel engines, particularly the D2876, would be highly advantageous.
• Experience within rail, rolling stock, HGV, bus, heavy plant or industrial diesel engines will be considered.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and alongside existing maintenance teams.
• Relevant mechanical or engineering qualifications are desirable.
• Good communication skills and the ability to provide technical guidance.
