Job summary

Quest Global in the United Kingdom seeks a Rock, Geological & Hydrogeological Engineer (Engineer / Senior Engineer / Expert) to deliver rock engineering, engineering geology, and groundwater assessments for complex infrastructure and nuclear new-build projects.

You will perform ground investigations, model groundwater flow, and contribute to multidisciplinary design, risk assessment, and technical governance across safety-critical programmes.

Role Summary

The Rock, Geological & Hydrogeological Engineer delivers rock engineering, engineering geology, and groundwater assessments to support complex infrastructure and nuclear new-build environments. Work includes ground investigations, rock mass characterisation, groundwater modelling, risk assessment, and integrated design development with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Rock Engineering & Engineering Geology - interpretation of borehole, laboratory, and field data; rock mass characterisation; derivation of material and discontinuity properties for design.
• Ground Investigations - feasibility studies, desk studies, GI design, supervision support, and interpretation of factual data.
• Ground & Geological Modelling - development of 3D geological and structural models using Leapfrog Geo, OpenGround, Civil 3D, and digital engineering tools.
• Hydrogeological Assessment - groundwater flow, aquifer characterisation, dewatering, contaminant transport, recharge, flooding, and hydrogeological risk evaluation.
• Numerical Modelling - empirical, analytical, and numerical stability assessments using FLAC2D/3D, UDEC, 3DEC, Bocsience suite, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, P20, ConSim, RAM.
• Design Integration - technical input to safety-critical designs, multidisciplinary coordination, and integrated engineering solutions.
• Technical Assurance - independent reviews, substantiation, regulatory support, and engagement with clients, regulators, and statutory bodies.
• Construction Support - specialist advice when unexpected geological or groundwater conditions arise.
• Governance & Compliance - adherence to CDM 2015, project governance, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Stakeholder Engagement - participation in workshops, risk reviews, and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Continuous Improvement - knowledge sharing, mentoring, and development of best-practice approaches.

Engineer

• Degree-qualified; working toward CGeol, CEng, CSci, or equivalent.
• Experience in engineering geology, ground investigations, site characterisation, and geological risk assessment.
• Familiar with geological modelling, hydrogeology, geomorphology, and ground-related hazards.

Senior Engineer

• Strong experience delivering hydrogeological or rock engineering assessments in regulated sectors.
• Leads GI planning, modelling, groundwater assessments, and integrated design development.
• Coordinates multidisciplinary interfaces and manages technical quality.

Expert / SME

• Chartered with extensive experience in rock engineering, hydrogeology, or engineering geology.
• Provides specialist advice, independent reviews, and technical governance.
• Leads high-risk or complex assessments, regulatory engagement, and assurance activities.
