About the Role

We're seeking a skilled and motivated Robotics Engineer / Programmer to join our automation team in the Telford. In this role, you'll be responsible for the programming, setup, and integration of robotic systems — from single-robot installations to multi-robot assembly cells used in advanced automotive manufacturing environments. You'll play a key part in ensuring seamless robotic operation, supporting installation, debugging, and optimization while promoting collaboration across engineering, controls, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program and configure industrial robots (Fanuc, KUKA, ABB) for welding, handling, and assembly applications.
  • Develop, structure, and maintain robot programs, including offline programming.
  • Configure robot IO, weld interfaces, and PLC communication links.
  • Troubleshoot and optimise robot paths and sequences for maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Create, validate, and document robot programs and configuration changes.
  • Support system integration with automation and PLC systems.
  • Work from electrical schematics, CAD drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to define requirements and resolve system issues.
  • Provide training and support to technicians and apprentices in robot programming and operation.
  • Stay up to date with the latest robotic technologies, standards, and best practices.
  • Support installation and commissioning activities at customer sites when required.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety and company procedures.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • At least 3 years' experience programming industrial robots.
  • Hands-on experience with Fanuc, KUKA, or ABB robot systems.
  • Strong understanding of robot-PLC communication (I/O mapping, interfaces, data exchange).
  • Knowledge of robot safety standards (CSA Z434, RIA).
  • Experience in robotic spot welding, MIG welding, or material handling applications.
  • Strong practical understanding of electrical circuits and mechanical systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and lead others.
Desirable
  • 5+ years of robotic programming experience.
  • Automotive Tier 1 manufacturing background.
  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for robotic applications.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and automation integration technologies.
