Job summary

RAC is hiring a Roadside Technician to perform diagnostics and repairs on roadside breakdowns across the UK. You will work from home and in local areas, visiting members to restore mobility quickly.

Roles require LV maintenance qualification (Level 2) or equivalent and 2+ years’ experience, plus a full UK driving licence with few points. You’ll receive a base salary and achievable on-target earnings with overtime options.

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• Experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to get members back on the road quickly.
• Start and finish your day at home, with a home-to-job-site commute and local area focus.

Join the team that keeps the UK moving. As a Roadside Technician with a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equilavent) and at least 2 years' experience , you’ll receive:

A market-competitive base salary of £36,400 and a realistic OTE of £60,000, with top-performers earning significantly more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.

Start and finish on your driveway. Demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Walsall cluster, covering areas like Walsall, Aldridge, Brownhills, Cannock, Lichfield, Burntwood, Sutton Coldfield. We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head‑on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
