Job summary

The RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to perform mechanical roadside repairs, diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. You’ll diagnose faults, provide quick solutions and help members resume their journeys with confidence and care.

This role offers a base salary of £36,400 with a realistic OTE of £61,000, and demand-led 40-hour weeks with optional overtime. A structured development programme supports IMI accreditation and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair and vehicle diagnostics.
• Provide emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Diagnose faults, solve problems and help members continue their journeys safely.
• Work independently to diagnose faults and use diagnostic technology.

What you’ll need...

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

About the role

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll work independently to diagnose faults, solve problems and help members continue their journeys safely. Every day brings different challenges, new environments and the opportunity to make an immediate impact when people need the RAC most.

You’ll combine technical expertise with great customer service, using the latest diagnostic technology to identify faults and get members back on the road quickly and safely.

You’ll be trusted to make decisions, supported to develop your skills and equipped with everything you need to succeed.
