Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to diagnose and repair vehicles on the roadside across the UK. You will operate from a RAC van, start and finish your day at home, and provide fast, confident solutions to members in need.

The role combines hands-on mechanical work with excellent member service, delivering diagnostics, repairs, and breakdown support while enjoying strong base pay and a clear progression path in a trusted, long-standing automotive services company.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent and 2+ years on-road experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert mechanical roadside repair and diagnostics across the UK.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform fault finding and repairs.
• Start and finish days at home, operating with the RAC van and diagnostic kit.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Stockport cluster, covering areas like Manchester (City Centre, South & East), Stockport, Sale, Altrincham, Cheadle, Didsbury, Chorlton, Stretford, Urmston, Wythenshawe, Wilmslow, Handforth, Alderley Edge.

We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault‑finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head‑on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
