Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to join the Patrol division, covering the Harlow cluster and surrounding areas. You’ll diagnose, repair, and assist members on the roadside, combining technical skill with outstanding service.

You’ll start and end your day at home, provided with a RAC van, tools, fuel card, and uniform. Strong base pay and realistic OTE, plus share scheme and benefits, reflect RAC’s 125+ years of heritage and growth.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Start and end your day at home while servicing members locally.
• Utilise provided RAC van, fuel card, tools, and diagnostic kit to complete calls.

• A market competitive base salary of £48,121.87, (Inclusive of night allowance) complimented by an average OTE ranging from £43,000 to £53,000.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Harlow cluster, covering areas like Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Waltham Abbey, Epping, Hoddesdon.

We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and

• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.
