Job summary

The RAC is hiring a Roadside Technician to deliver expert mechanical roadside repairs and diagnostics across the UK. Starting on your driveway with demand-led shifts, you’ll work roughly 40 hours per week with optional overtime, supported by a structured development programme and IMI accreditation.

Expect a base salary of £36,400 with a realistic OTE of ~£61,000, with top performers earning more through bonuses and overtime.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance with 2+ years’ experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support nationwide.
• Diagnose faults, provide quick and confident solutions, and reassure members.
• Work independently to diagnose faults and get members back on the road safely.
• Combine technical expertise with strong customer service using diagnostic tools.

About the role

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault‑finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll work independently to diagnose faults, solve problems and help members continue their journeys safely. Every day brings different challenges, new environments and the opportunity to make an immediate impact when people need the RAC most.

You’ll combine technical expertise with great customer service, using the latest diagnostic technology to identify faults and get members back on the road quickly and safely.

You’ll be trusted to make decisions, supported to develop your skills and equipped with everything you need to succeed.
