Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to join its Patrol division. You’ll perform diagnostics and roadside repairs, support breakdowns and travel across a local area to help members get moving again.

Start and finish each day from home with a RAC van, fuel card, and essential tools provided. Ideal candidates hold a Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience or 5+ years as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic, plus a clean UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent with 2+ years' hands-on experience.
• Alternatively, 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Perform fault diagnostics and repairs at the roadside to get members back on the road quickly.
• Start and end your day at home, travelling locally to call-outs and providing outstanding member service.

Join the RAC as a Roadside Technician Join the team that keeps the UK moving. As a Roadside Technician

with a Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equilavent) and at least 2 years' experience , you’ll receive:

A market-competitive base salary of £36,400 and a realistic OTE of £60,000, with top-performers earning significantly more through bonuses and enhanced overtime rates.

Start and finish on your driveway. Demand-led shifts averaging 40 hours per week, with optional overtime available.

Where you’ll workYou’ll be part of the Cheltenham cluster, covering areas like Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cirencester (south), Cotswold towns.We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

• Either :
• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• or
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• and
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head-on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.

We’ll set you up for success from day one, with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools, and diagnostic kit all provided.
