Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to diagnose faults and repair vehicles at the roadside across the UK. You’ll work independently, delivering confident solutions and reassuring members when they need us most, using the latest diagnostic tech.

This role offers a strong base pay of £36,400 with an realistic OTE of £61,000 and a structured development pathway, plus overtime opportunities and a benefits package designed to support long-term career growth within RAC.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in light vehicle maintenance or equivalent with 2+ years’ experience.
• Or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair and vehicle diagnostics across the UK.
• Diagnose faults independently and provide quick, confident solutions.
• Support members with emergency breakdowns and safe onward journeys.
• Utilise diagnostic technology to identify faults and restore travel quickly.

What you’ll need...

Either: NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience

or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

and A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

About the role

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault‑finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll work independently to diagnose faults, solve problems and help members continue their journeys safely. Every day brings different challenges, new environments and the opportunity to make an immediate impact when people need the RAC most.

You’ll combine technical expertise with great customer service, using the latest diagnostic technology to identify faults and get members back on the road quickly and safely.

You’ll be trusted to make decisions, supported to develop your skills and equipped with everything you need to succeed.
