Job summary

RAC in the United Kingdom is seeking a Roadside Technician to perform mechanical roadside repairs, diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. You’ll be based at home, starting and finishing locally, and visiting members in your designated area.

You’ll deliver expert roadside service, use diagnostic tools, and provide calm, confident support to members in need. RAC provides a van, fuel card, uniform, and essential tools to help you succeed.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent.
• 5+ years experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK.
• Start and finish your day at home, while tackling roadside challenges and helping members get back on the road.
• Equip and use your tools/diagnostic kit to provide quick, confident solutions.

Where you’ll work

You’ll be part of the Stockport cluster, covering areas like Manchester (City Centre, South & East), Stockport, Sale, Altrincham, Cheadle, Didsbury, Chorlton, Stretford, Urmston, Wythenshawe, Wilmslow, Handforth, Alderley Edge.

We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault‑finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head‑on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.
