Job summary

RAC is seeking a Roadside Technician to join the Reading/Oxford clusters. You will perform mechanical roadside repairs, diagnostics and emergency breakdown support across the UK, starting and finishing from home and visiting members in your local area.

The role includes a provided RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, diagnostic kit and ongoing training, with a competitive base salary and strong OTE potential. Candidates need either NVQ2 with 2+ years’ experience or 5+ years as a Technician, plus a

• Or 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

• Deliver emergency breakdown support across the UK
• Start and finish from home, and serve local areas with mobile roadside service

A market competitive base salary of £ 42,921.87 , (Inclusive of night allowance) complimented by an average OTE ranging from £43,000 to £53,000.

Where you’ll workYou’ll be part of the Reading cluster, covering areas like Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Henley‑on‑Thames, Crowthorne, Sandhurst.

You’ll be part of the Oxford cluster, covering areas like Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Wantage, Witney, Bicester, Thame. We organise work locally so you can start and finish at home, focusing your day on getting members back on the road in your local area.

What you’ll need:

• Either :
• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• or
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• and
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

As a Roadside Technician within our Patrol division, you’ll deliver expert mechanical roadside repair, vehicle diagnostics, and emergency breakdown support across the UK. Whether it’s a flat battery, tyre change, or complex fault-finding, you’ll provide quick, confident solutions and reassurance when our members need it most.

You’ll start and end your day at home, tackling challenges head‑on and making a real impact on the roadside - combining your technical expertise with outstanding member service.
