Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Road Safety Assistant to support the delivery of the Vision Zero programme across Essex. You will work with Safer Essex Roads Partnership and partner organisations to communicate road safety messages and deliver education in primary schools.

The role involves countywide travel and reporting to the Road Safety Team Leader for training and task allocation. You will engage with both adults and children, work independently, and coordinate with schools to implement

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel.
  • Experience of education / training.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

The Opportunity

The Road Safety Assistant will be working within Safer Essex Roads Partnership working to deliver Vision Zero, zero road deaths or serious injuries in Essex by 2040. This role will be working with partner organisations of SERP and with public to communicate road safety messages.

This role will deliver the road safety programme for education in primary schools. The post holder will be required to work across the whole county, however, to keep travel to a minimum, the group of schools that you will be assigned will be as close to your home location as possible. You will report to the Road Safety Team Leader who will allocate work, provide training and development as required.

You will be able to communicate comfortably with both adults and children to support the road safety programme, and your enthusiasm and self-motivation will equip you to work independently, liaising directly with schools.

What you will be responsible for:
  • Work as part of a team delivering road safety interventions, raising awareness, educating and behavioural change sessions to children and adults in primary school settings.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with partner organisations, institutions and schools.
  • Record data from visits and evaluation of the sessions delivered.
  • Management of Health and safety for the activities undertaken.
  • Other Ad Hoc duties to fulfil the requirement of the role

  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and the ability to follow safeguarding policies, procedures, and reporting protocols.
Essential
  • Full UK driving license and is willing to travel.
  • Experience of education / training.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and online meeting platforms eg Zoom or MS Teams).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
  • Experience or knowledge of Road Safety or Highways.
  • Experience of Health and Safety practice.
  • Understanding of behaviour change techniques.
  • Confidence in delivering educational interventions to children.
