Job description

To support the successful integration of Virgin Money into Nationwide by coordinating and helping to shape risk management and controls alignment activities across the transition programme. The Risk Manager will work closely with stakeholders to identify, assess, and manage risks associated with the integration, ensuring alignment with the broader risk framework. The role will also provide project management support to drive delivery of key risk and control milestones, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and ensure effective governance and reporting throughout the integration lifecycle.

This role is a 6‑month fixed‑term contract opportunity.

What you’ll be doing

You will be responsible for leading and coordinating risk assessments associated with the integration of Virgin Money into Nationwide, covering both business‑as‑usual (BAU) activities and change‑related initiatives. Work with stakeholders to develop and implement mitigation plans for identified risks and provide project management support across the risk and control workstream of the integration programme, ensuring timely delivery of key milestones. Support governance and reporting activities, including preparing updates, dashboards, and reports to senior leadership.

You will have the opportunity to lead and support delivery of cross‑functional governance activities, ensuring effective coordination, reporting, and decision‑making across relevant workstreams and stakeholders involved in the integration programme.

There will be responsibility for identifying and assessing the impact of changes to the control environment on finance processes and reporting, ensuring that documents are updated accordingly to reflect any necessary changes.

About you
  • Proven experience as a risk, control, and governance professional, with expertise in operational and conduct risk.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and their practical application.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret risk policies and design associated control activities.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including building relationships with senior leaders and contributing to senior management meetings and forums.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain risk concepts clearly and without jargon, supporting the embedding of risk management and a positive risk culture.
  • Proficient in the use of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) systems, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to in‑house applications.
  • Collaborative and inclusive mindset, with a proven ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple and sometimes ambiguous priorities, ensuring high‑quality and timely delivery.
  • Proven influencing skills, with the ability to shape outcomes and drive engagement.
  • Effective planning and time management capabilities.
  • Experience in project management, including the ability to take input from various stakeholders and transform it into clear, structured documentation and papers.
