Job summary

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in London is seeking a Risk & Compliance Lawyer to join the London Risk & Compliance team within the Office of General Counsel. The role requires 1-4 years of legal experience in a fast-paced environment.

You will act as a key advisor for the team and the firm. You will monitor UK regulatory developments, advise on policy changes, help draft guidance, and support training and risk projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required (2:1 or above preferred).
• Must be qualified lawyer with 1-4 PQE.
• 1–4 years legal experience in risk and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Keeping abreast of changes in UK legal, regulatory and compliance obligations.
• Advising on policy changes aligned with regulatory developments and draft amendments.
• Support partners and regulated individuals with queries on ethics, confidentiality and disclosure.
• Support development and delivery of Risk & Compliance training.
• Work with the London Director of Risk & Compliance on projects.
• Supervise junior Risk & Compliance members and provide guidance.
• Represent the Firm's compliance function with key stakeholders.
• Support general risk and compliance queries.
• Promote ethical awareness, accountability and risk management.
• Perform other ad hoc duties as required.

Description/Job Summary

We are seeking a Risk & Compliance Lawyer to join our London Risk & Compliance team, which sits within the OGC. 1-4 years legal experience is required in this fast paced environment. You will act as a key advisor for the team and firm.

Responsibilities/Duties

• Keeping abreast of changes and developments in relevant UK legal, regulatory and compliance obligations, including the SRA Standards and Regulations and firm authorization requirements;
• Advising on policy changes that will need to take place in line with regulatory developments and changes in law as required and draft amendments to such policies and associated guidance;
• Supporting partners and regulated individuals with queries regarding professional responsibility, ethics, confidentiality and disclosure obligations;
• Support the development and delivery of Risk & Compliance related training for the Firm and team;
• Working closely with the Firm's Director of Risk & Compliance (London) on broader risk and compliance projects;
• Supervising junior members of the Risk & Compliance team and offering guidance as appropriate;
• Working with key stakeholders and acting as a representative for the Firm's compliance function;
• Supporting the Firm with general risk and compliance queries;
• Supporting a culture of ethical awareness, accountability and risk management; and
• Other ad hoc duties as required.

Required Skills

• Previous experience within a compliance team is desirable;
• Fee earners with regulatory experience who are considering their first role within a Risk & Compliance team will also be welcomed;
• A high level of attention to detail;
• Excellent analytical skills;
• Ability to draft clearly and concisely;
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal;
• The ability to influence and persuade at all levels

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree required (2:1 or above preferred);
