Candidates will ideally have around three years of experience in an all-round risk role, or be a strong graduate with internship or placement experience in risk
A specialist investment manager focused on alternative and real asset strategies across private and public markets is looking for a Risk Associate / Analyst to join its risk team. The firm manages capital on behalf of institutional investors, wealth managers, family offices, charities and endowments, and continues to grow.
This is a generalist role. You will work across counterparty, credit, operational and portfolio risk rather than sitting on a single desk, which makes it a good move for someone who wants broad exposure to how risk is managed across a growing investment business. Many of the assets sit outside conventional markets, so you will regularly deal with risk questions that have no ready-made answer. We are looking for someone curious, who wants to understand how the business works and asks why.
Please note this is not a desk-based investment risk role. The focus is on monitoring, reporting and control across the whole firm, including counterparty, credit, operational and portfolio risk.
Key Responsibilities of the Risk Associate / Analyst to include:
- Risk Monitoring & Reporting: produce and maintain regular risk reporting for management and committees, covering portfolio, counterparty, credit and operational risk across both listed and private strategies.
- Portfolio Risk: monitor investment risk exposures and limits, including listed equity portfolios, and flag issues to senior risk colleagues.
- Counterparty & Credit Risk: assess and monitor counterparty and credit exposures, supporting reviews and escalating concerns where needed.
- Operational Risk: handle operational incidents from logging through to root cause analysis and remediation, and support the risk register and control testing.
- Regulatory Capital: support regulatory capital calculations and reporting, working with finance and compliance.
- Stakeholder Support: work with investment, operations, finance and compliance teams so that risk is understood and built into day-to-day decisions.
- Framework Development: help improve risk policies, processes and reporting tools as the business and its range of strategies grow.
Requirements for the successful Risk Associate / Analyst:
- Around three years of experience in an all-round risk role, covering a mix of credit, counterparty, operational and portfolio risk, ideally within asset management, investment management or financial services.
- Graduates with internship or placement experience in risk will also be considered. We are open on seniority and will shape the role around the right person.
- A good understanding of risk reporting and the regulatory environment for investment managers, including regulatory capital.
- Strong analytical skills and good attention to detail, with confidence working in Excel and comfort with data.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to raise issues with investment professionals and senior colleagues.
- A curious, proactive approach and a genuine interest in alternative investments.
