Job summary

Suncor Energy in London is seeking a seasoned risk and reporting professional to join our trading risk team. You will analyze daily risk exposure, publish P&L and risk reports for North America and international crude, products and LPG trading, and provide independent challenge to trading strategies to mitigate risk.

Qualifications

  • Five plus years of relevant experience, preferably in Commodity trading (Front, Middle, or Back Office).
  • Good understanding of commodity risk management and P&L generation, attribution, and reporting.
  • Experience with Middle Office controls including IPV and P&L validation.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and publish the daily risk management exposure and P&L reports for North America and International trading activity.
  • Deliver high quality, insightful, automated management information.
  • Bring transparency to deal structures and explain financial impacts in operational terms.
  • Provide independent understanding of trading strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Support risk governance policies and ensure trading activity complies with policies and limits.
  • Act as main day-to-day risk function contact with Calgary, London, and Houston teams.
  • Collaborate with commercial and other functions to support growth initiatives.
  • Balance reporting and control duties with business partnering.

In this role, you'll bring transparency to deal structures, translate financial outcomes into clear operational insights, and provide independent challenge to trading strategies to help identify and mitigate financial, operational, and reputational risk.

Minimum Requirements:
  • University Degree, preferably Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Computer Science
  • Five plus years of relevant experience, preferably in Commodity trading (Front, Middle, or Back Office capacity)
  • Good understanding of commodity risk management and associated P&L generation, attribution, and reporting across trading activities
  • Experience with Middle Office controls including P&L validation, valuation oversight, and independent price verification (IPV)
  • Solid understanding of industry leading practices in middle office control process and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated ability to operate across stakeholders, within a global team, and independently
  • Understanding of derivative regulatory and compliance environments
  • Ability to support higher level risk management initiatives
  • Able to quickly read, interpret, and synthesize complex data and translate into effective communication medium to all levels of the organization, collaborating effectively within and across functions
  • Ability to remain independent and objective with respect to Front Office expectations
Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and publish the daily risk management exposure reports, profit and loss (P&L) reports, and other related reporting requirements for our North America and International crude, products and LPG trading activity
  • Deliver high quality, insightful, value added, and automated management information
  • Bring transparency to deal structures and explain financial impacts in operational terms
  • Provide independent understanding of trading strategies to identify/raise and mitigate financial, operational & reputational risk related to new or existing activities
  • Administer risk governance policies and standards as part of the control program supporting the supply and trading business, while ensuring all trading activity complies with internal and external policies and limits
  • Support specific product lines as the main day-to-day risk function contact with strong global connectivity to our Calgary, London and Houston teams.
  • Support regional and global process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with commercial and other functions to support the significant growth of new business initiatives
  • Balance independent reporting and control duties with a business partnering and commercial enabling approach
  • Perform other duties include extensive cross-functional project work, audit support, working capital analysis, and reconciliation with IFRS Accounting & Reporting results
  • Demonstrate and develop understanding of physical and financial energy markets in respective commodity area
Location and other key details:
  • This is an office based role, you will work out of our London Trading Office, located at 10 Brook Street W1
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
