Job summary

Early Break in Bury is seeking qualified counsellors to work full- or part-time, 1.6 role equivalents, delivering evidence-based counselling to children and young people with emotional health needs. You will assess, plan, and implement recovery-focused care, while collaborating with health professionals and families.

This permanent role involves safeguarding, reporting, and contributing to educational outreach, with supervision and ongoing training supported by the organisation.

Qualifications

• Formal counselling qualifications and registration with relevant body.
• Experience delivering evidence-based counselling to youth.
• Ability to assess needs and create outcome-focused plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide formal counselling to children and young people with emotional health needs.
• Undertake assessments considering developmental, attachment, trauma and cultural factors.
• Work within coproduced care plans to support recovery.
• Attend multi-agency and safeguarding meetings as required.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to support borough youth wellbeing.
• Contribute to trauma action plans and service development.
• Produce reports and case studies for funders and commissioners.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries; document decisions.
• Deliver education sessions and group work as needed.
• Participate in supervision and ongoing professional development.

Full and part time roles available. 1.6 role equivalent

Key Focus

Provide formal counselling to children and young people with a range of emotional health and wellbeing needs using a variety of evidence-based approaches. Counselling children and young people who typically will have experienced loss or bereavement in its many forms and / or wider counselling offer may be required where need dictates.

• Undertake assessments of need, considering children’s developmental, attachment, trauma and cultural needs.
• Working to a coproduced care plan, providing outcome-focussed client centred therapy with a focus on recovery with children and families who have experienced complex trauma.
• Take part in multi-agency meetings, Child in Need and Child Protection meetings, care planning meetings with other health professionals and safeguarding reviews.
• Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside Early Break colleagues to support emotional wellbeing of children and young people across the borough.
• Support and contribute to the service Trauma action plan in ensuring services are developed alongside those with lived-experiences.
• Provide information to assist with the production of reports and monitoring, including case studies of therapy, as required by our funders and commissioners.
• Ensure the voice of children, their carers and families are at the heart of everything offered and included in service development.
• Support and encourage young people to take on board safety messages as regards to risk taking behaviour and own vulnerability, including self-injury, offending behaviour, complex safeguarding and other.
• Prepare, plan and deliver educational sessions and group work to young people in education settings or the community as per need.
• Adhere to Early Break policies on Safeguarding including identification and referral, as well as participating in any subsequent action in relation to these.
• Access to regular case review and clinical supervision, responding to any case or decisions effectively, recording all decisions on appropriate systems and ensuring that confidentiality and professional boundaries are maintained.
• Maintain and update levels of knowledge and understanding of issues relevant to young people’s lives through reading, eLearning and training offered by the Mental Health system, Early Break and other agencies, as opportunities arise.
• Ensure all necessary administration/sessional recordings are complete, including maintenance of written records and Nebula database.
• Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the work of the role and the Service.
• Implement Service Health and Safety Policy/Service Guidelines including risk assessments.
• Attend relevant internal and external meetings supportive to the role.
• Engage in professional development opportunities and training as required/appropriate.
• Have an understanding of and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
