Eastbourne District General Hospital - cross site

Rheumatology Department

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to join the Rheumatology Team, working across site as a Specialist Nurse alongside the Rheumatology Consultants and lead Nurse Specialist. The post holder will be responsible for assessing patients' rheumatological conditions, including eligibility for DMARD and Biologic treatments to control inflammatory arthritis, and monitoring the efficacy ongoing. They will also ensure that blood monitoring is carried out in a timely manner to prevent treatment interruptions.

Providing liaison between outpatient clinics, day unit therapy, external homecare providers and primary care to ensure continuity of care. Attending MDM for educational development and supporting the telephone advice line. The post holder will be based at Eastbourne but will be expected to work cross site if necessary.

We are seeking a dynamic and forward‑thinking RGN with experience managing a specialised service for inflammatory arthritic conditions. Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are required, as is the ability to work independently and within a team.

Key Responsibilities

Rheumatology Specialist Nurse will play a key role in caring for people with inflammatory and autoimmune musculoskeletal conditions. Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and monitoring disease activity, managing flares and providing ongoing follow‑up care.
  • Conducting outpatient clinics, requesting and reviewing blood tests and investigations within scope.
  • Assessing and monitoring treatments including DMARDs and biologics.
  • Providing liaison between outpatient clinics, day unit therapy, external homecare providers and primary care to ensure continuity of care.
  • Attending MDM for educational development and supporting the telephone advice line.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and records.
  • Keeping up to date with evidence‑based practice and adhering to professional standards, policies and governance frameworks.
Essential Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with an active NMC registration.
  • Degree level qualification relevant to the role.
  • Professional qualification and training to support the clinical team in specialist skills and programmes of care.
  • Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, e.g., Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire safety.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Management or leadership qualification or training.
  • Quality improvement training and qualification.
  • Education and training qualification.
Essential Experience
  • Experience in nursing care, with knowledge and expertise relevant to rheumatology within NHS or other relevant healthcare organisations.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience in leading a team or service change/QI project.
  • Experience in clinical speciality relevant to the role to demonstrate specialist level knowledge and skills.
