Job summary

A global engineering firm in Portsmouth seeks an experienced RF Engineer to support satellite communication terminal products. The ideal candidate will have strong RF knowledge and experience across various frequency ranges. You will work closely with design and manufacturing teams throughout the product lifecycle. This role is in-house, requiring 3 days per week on-site, and offers a competitive hourly rate.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of RF principles and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and sustainment of satellite communication terminal products.
• Contribute to the product lifecycle from concept to in-service support.
• Produce RF specifications and validate RF designs.

Skills

Strong RF engineering knowledge across RF, Microwave and mmWave frequency ranges

Experience producing RF specifications, defining interfaces, and performance criteria

Ability to generate system diagrams and RF link/budget calculations

Knowledge of EM field theory, RF circuit design, RF materials, RF measurement techniques

Ability to verify design compliance to requirements

Experience working across full product lifecycle

Education

Degree (or equivalent) in a recognised engineering discipline

RF ENGINEER – SC Clearance required

• £50 per hour (via Umbrella)
• Initial 6-month contract with likely extension
• 3 days per week on-site in Portsmouth
• 35 hour week

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is a major global player in advanced engineering, operating across defence, communications, aerospace, and high‑technology programmes. You will be joining a specialist team responsible for the design, development and sustainment of satellite communication terminal products used across land, sea, and air domains. Due to ongoing programme demand and exciting future technology developments, they are looking for an experienced RF Engineer to strengthen their engineering capability.

THE RF ENGINEER ROLE

As an RF Engineer, you will support the design, validation, and sustainment of satellite communication terminal products, with a particular focus on naval antenna systems. You will produce RF specifications, define performance criteria, develop RF budgets, and validate RF designs across the full Tx/Rx chain. Working closely with design, manufacturing engineering, and multifunctional teams, you will contribute to the product lifecycle from concept through to in‑service support.

RF ENGINEER – ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• Strong RF engineering knowledge across RF, Microwave and mmWave frequency ranges
• Experience producing RF specifications, defining interfaces, and performance criteria
• Ability to generate system diagrams and RF link/budget calculations
• Knowledge of EM field theory, RF circuit design, RF materials, RF measurement techniques, and environmental impacts on RF units
• Ability to verify design compliance to requirements
• Experience working across full product lifecycle with engineering and manufacturing teams
• Degree (or equivalent) in a recognised engineering discipline

Desirable Skills:

• Understanding of military SatCom standards (e.g., MIL-STD-188-164C)
• Experience in maritime military satellite communications
• Chartered Engineer status (IET or equivalent)
