Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Resuscitation Service as a Resuscitation Practitioner Band 6. You will be based at the Horizon Centre at Torbay Hospital and work with colleagues and patients across the entire organisation. Working within a team, and a wider directorate of dedicated, passionate and highly skilled professional individuals, you will contribute to the development of colleagues from all areas of our organisation.

As part of a network of staff and teams collaborating to support, advise and galvanise confidence and ability in others, this role affords better care and outcomes for patients and service users.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will have some managerial and supervisory duties supporting junior members of the team.
  • The post holder will report to the operational Lead and deputise where needed.
  • The post holder will work autonomously but also as part of the team and wider Education Directorate and Torbay family.
  • Lead debriefing sessions both post arrest (hot) and potentially more in depth pastoral debrief at a later time (cold).
  • Provide specialised advice and guidance on resuscitation.
  • Attend Resuscitation Committee / Council meetings.
  • Support clinical staff in the resuscitation of patients.
  • Work within Adult and Paediatric domains in a resuscitation capacity.
  • The post holder will be required to carry out project work for the education directorate as directed.
  • The post holder will require flexibility to support other areas of educational need as and when required.
  • The post holder may be required to support colleagues clinically during critical incidents and during OPEL 4 conditions within scope of practice.
Working for the Organisation

The Resuscitation Service is a small yet dynamic team that operates from within the Education and People Directorate. As part of the service you will contribute to a variety of training programmes and courses and other service delivery needs such as Mask Fit testing, first aid at work courses and clinical contribution including expertise and risk assessment. You will be connected to and work with colleagues from all areas of the Trust in acute and primary services.

Skills and Experience
  • Adult & Paediatric Basic, Adult Advanced Life Support, and adult/Paediatric Immediate Life Support courses (Resuscitation Council UK) – BLS/ILS/ALS/PILS/PBLS.
  • Resuscitation in special circumstances such as pregnancy.
  • Defibrillation using an automated external defibrillator (AED) and manual defibrillator.
  • Recognition and immediate management of anaphylaxis.
  • Recognition of vital signs.
  • Adapt training at the point of delivery to ensure candidate learning.
  • Provide comprehensive advice and training on basic and advanced life support and the safe use, maintenance and replacement of resuscitation equipment.
  • Support the medical registrar and crash team during cardiac arrests in the acute hospital.
  • Support a range of staff in resuscitation practice while reinforcing current guidelines.
  • Provide a flexible debriefing service for staff following resuscitation.
  • Audit compliance of resuscitation policies, procedures and training; implement any required action.
  • Maintain first‑line maintenance of resuscitation and training equipment.
  • Conduct quarterly audits and spot checks of resuscitation trolleys and equipment; communicate findings promptly.
  • Collate, update and disseminate cardiac arrest information; maintain data in internal audit and the National Cardiac Arrest Audit.
  • Participate in cardiac arrest review and root cause analysis.
  • Report discrepancies and ensure full compliance with Trust policies.
  • Maintain and update policies and SOPs as service needs demand.
  • Maintain competence in basic and advanced life support and other resuscitation areas as agreed with the Resuscitation Lead.
  • Attend Resuscitation Steering Group meetings and ensure recommendations are implemented.
  • Assist integration of the resuscitation service across acute and community settings.
  • Act as a positive role model at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with anaphylaxis training across Trusts.
  • Develop appropriate training courses for community hospitals and for caring for sick children.
  • Adaptability to ensure ongoing relevance and accessibility of all resuscitation‑based programmes.
  • Support clinical practice within the role and maintain professional registration.
