Job description

A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is an established and top performing Major Trauma Centre.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic clinician with appropriate qualifications to join the Major Trauma Service within our ED Resus Trauma Practitioner team. The resus practitioners are based within the ED Resus Department. The role includes reception of major trauma patients, initial assessment and stabilisation including airway management, and safe transfer for ongoing care. Resus practitioners also support the duty anaesthetist service, assisting with airway management, invasive pain management, and massive haemorrhage protocol transfusions across the wider hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reception, initial assessment, and stabilisation of major trauma patients in the ED Resus area.
  • Provision of airway management support and transfer to definitive care.
  • Support duty anaesthetists on MHP calls in the hospital and paediatric medical assistance calls.
  • Preparation and administration of blood products, drugs, and other interventions in line with trust policy.
  • Competence in the use of resuscitation department equipment, trauma splinting, orthotic devices, and transfer to CT, theatres or MRI.
  • Support paediatric and medical teams with airway management, CPR and critical care.
  • Actively engage with the Major Trauma Service across the trust.
Shift Pattern

The rota will include long shifts, weekends and night work. Shift times are 07:30–20:00, 19:30–08:00 and 12:00–00:30.

Additional skills and training in extended areas will be supported and encouraged.
