Job summary

A community health service provider in Helston is seeking a motivated Band 6 clinician (Nurse or AHP) specializing in respiratory care. The role involves assessing and managing patients with chronic lung diseases at home or in clinics. Ideal candidates will have relevant qualifications and a commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork. Travel across Cornwall is essential. This position is only open to current NHS staff in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered AHP required.
  • Experience in respiratory care or equivalent qualification needed.
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients with chronic respiratory disease in their homes.
  • Advise on managing respiratory patients in primary care.

We are a happy, supportive multidisciplinary team based in the West area of Cornwall, primarily looking after patients with chronic lung disease and breathlessness. We work closely with GPs and the acute hospital sites to keep our patients as independent and healthy as possible at home, supporting them to understand and manage the symptoms of their condition and enjoy the best quality of life.

We have a current vacancy for a motivated band 6 clinician (Nurse or AHP) who either has experience in respiratory care or would like to specialise in the field.

This is a community-based role that requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the county including areas that may not be accessible by public transportation. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate how they will manage these travel requirements.

Main duties of the job
  • Assessing patients with chronic respiratory disease in their own home or community clinic.
  • Advising primary care or other generalists in specialist management of respiratory patients.
  • Monitoring disease progression and clinical need through arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation, spirometry.
  • Specialist management of symptoms such as chronic breathlessness, airway secretions, cough and medicines optimisation.
  • Home oxygen assessment and review of prescriptions, both long-term and ambulatory.
  • Integrated working with other specialist HCPs within the team (OT, physio, SLT, dietetics, support workers and administrator) and wider system (GPs, practice and community nursing and therapies, acute site clinicians and consultants) to share skills and ensure the patient receives seamless care.
