Job Summary

Responsibilities

Two secondment posts as Respiratory Nurse Specialist for a period of 4 months (dependent on starting date). The successful applicant will:

  • Be pro‑active in delivering anticipatory and responsive care, promoting independence, healthy lifestyles, and reducing health inequalities to improve overall quality of life.
  • Offer a comprehensive nursing/therapy service to the resident population of Mid Notts using a multi‑disciplinary, multi‑agency approach to maximise patient function, wellbeing and self‑care planning.
  • Identify, manage and discuss a cohort of patients with undiagnosed and diagnosed long‑term lung conditions, providing care plans as appropriate.
  • Work closely with Cardio‑Respiratory Team members and a wider multi‑disciplinary team (including acute colleagues, GPs, voluntary sector and other health professionals) to maximise patient quality of life and encourage self‑management.
  • Provide care in community clinic settings and in patients’ own homes or usual place of residence.
  • Travel independently across the county as required; a full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use are required.
  • Pay for their DBS check; costs will be deducted from salary over the first 2 months of employment.

Qualifications (Essential)
  • Registered Nurse (General) plus significant further specialist knowledge/post‑registration experience to diploma level or equivalent underpinned by theory.
  • Experience working with respiratory patients (e.g., COPD, ILD, bronchiectasis).
  • Independent nurse prescriber (V300).
Qualifications (Desirable)
  • Relevant health‑related honours degree.
  • Recognised respiratory qualification (e.g., COPD) at a minimum of diploma level.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Competence in Spirometry.
Experience (Essential)
  • Significant experience and extensive knowledge in the management of complex respiratory patients.
  • Understanding of current national/local initiatives and guidelines, including NICE.
  • Management of respiratory patients working in collaboration across primary care.
  • Competence in holistic assessment, including physical examination, diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating respiratory services to promote high‑quality health outcomes and case management skills.
  • Evidence of teaching in clinical practice.
  • Strong management skills.
Experience (Desirable)
  • Working in collaboration with secondary care, social care and the voluntary sector.
  • Understanding of current research and evidence‑based practice.
  • Experience supervising junior team members.
