Qualifications

  • Must have 6 months paid experience in the UK.
  • Ideally have a driver's license and business insurance.
  • DBS on update service or support new application.
  • PMVA trained - ideally or willing to undertake training.

  • Engage and encourage the child or young person in activities.
  • Provide accurate reports to support development of care plans.

What you will bring
  • supporting children and young people in a residential setting
  • confidence to work with colleagues at times of heightened behaviours to de‑escalate situations
  • experience of using de‑escalation techniques to keep children and young people safe
  • experience making decisions and taking action in challenging situations
  • an understanding of detailed and accurate daily record keeping, incident reporting
  • be creative when engaging and establishing trust with children and young people
  • demonstrate sound communication and judgement
  • clarity over protecting personal and professional boundaries at all times
Commitment
  • be a consistent part of a team offering dedicated support to a child or young person
  • provide availability and maintain this for the duration of the support required
  • to take time to read relevant reports, referrals and profiles to gain insight to the child or young person
Personality
  • calmness during crisis situations such as aggression, self harm, destructive behaviours for example
  • confidence in your experience to support you making prompt decisions on a daily basis
  • understanding of how trauma, previous experiences and diagnoses can impact day to day behaviours of children and young people
  • non judgemental keeping an open mind and refraining from criticising even during challenging situations
  • resilience to continue supporting through particularly stressful situations and to keep trying new ways to engage and build trust
  • observant your observations and outcomes of support will have a significant impact on the child's / young person's journey, you will have heightened awareness levels and the ability to share these insights through your reports and meetings with other professionals
