Leaders in Care are proud to be working with a well-established children’s residential service in Birmingham that provides specialist care for children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, complex health needs, and challenging behaviours.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a nurturing and highly supportive team at a time of growth and service development. As a Senior Child Care Officer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children to achieve their potential and live happy, fulfilling lives.

About the Role

As a Senior Residential Support Worker you will:

  • Lead by example in delivering high-quality, person-centred care within a warm and safe environment.
  • Support children with daily living tasks, including personal care, meal preparation, and promoting independence.
  • Develop and implement individualised care plans based on each child’s needs and goals.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with the children, encouraging emotional well‑being and positive behaviour.
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools, and multi‑agency professionals to ensure consistent support and progress.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff, ensuring best practice is maintained at all times.
  • Contribute to planning and organising engaging activities tailored to each child’s abilities and interests.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with safeguarding and regulatory requirements.
About You

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient, and genuinely passionate about improving the lives of young people. You will ideally bring:

  • A minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Residential Childcare (Level 3 preferred).
  • Experience supporting children or young people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to use communication aids effectively.
  • A strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to providing high‑quality care.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a 24‑hour service (including shifts, weekends, and bank holidays).
  • A caring, patient, and proactive approach with a focus on safeguarding and promoting independence.
