Job description

A growing surveying practice in the North East is recruiting a qualified Building Surveyor (AssocRICS or full MRICS) to join the team. The role will primarily involve delivering RICS Level 2 and Level 3 residential building surveys, but there is also opportunity to take on project & professional work, plus support / training responsibilities.

Key responsibilities
  • Conducting Level 2 & Level 3 residential surveys for home buyers, owners, and other clients
  • Producing clear, accurate, and timely reports in accordance with RICS standards
  • Liaising with clients, managing expectations, and explaining findings in a professional manner
  • Working on a mix of jobs: surveys, valuations, estate / block property related work, possibly commercial/residential mix over time
  • Opportunity to be involved in project-based / professional work (e.g. refurbishment, re‑instatement cost assessments, specification writing)
  • Contributing towards mentoring / training more junior surveyors or assistants
Skills & experience
  • Qualified as AssocRICS or MRICS, with relevant surveying experience
  • Proven experience carrying out Level 2 & Level 3 residential building surveys
  • Good technical knowledge: building defects, structure, materials, construction types, damp, movement, etc.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Client‑facing confidence; ability to explain issues to non‑technical people
  • Self‑motivated, organised, with ability to manage a varied workload independently
  • Ideally some exposure to project / professional surveying work, or willingness to develop that side
