Job summary

Cygnet Group is seeking an outstanding Junior Doctor to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Blackheath for a fixed-term 2-month contract beginning 01/09/2026. The Resident Medical Officer will provide on-call cover, including 5pm–9am weekdays and 9am–9am weekends, on a 4-on/3-off rota with consultant support.

The post requires full GMC registration and MBBS qualification, with experience in psychiatry preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be fully GMC registered and MBBS qualified.
• Strong clinical decision-making with sound judgment.
• Experience in psychiatry or psychiatric settings is desirable.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and document clearly.

Responsibilities

• Perform ECGs and bloods.
• Administer NG tubing and manage patient admissions.
• Carry out patient assessments and risk assessments.
• Conduct mental health assessments and contribute to care planning.

As a Resident Medical Officer, you'll play a crucial role providing on call cover for Cygnet Hospital Blackheath.

Please note this is a Fixed Term Contract for 2 months commencing on 01/09/2026.

In this role, you'll be covering weekday on-calls (5 pm - 9 am) and weekend day on-calls (9 am - 9 am), on a rota of 4 days on and 3 days off with access to Consultant advice.

Cygnet Hospital Blackheath is our 30-bed hospital providing inpatient low secure and PICU services for men with a mental health illness.

We accept urgent admissions from all over the country for people in acute psychiatric distress and can assess and transfer urgent prison referrals swiftly. We also provide an intensive programme of recovery in our low secure mental health ward, developing a personal therapeutic timetable to meet the needs of service users whatever their stage of recovery.

• Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
• An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement, the ability to manage risk & know when to ask for help
• Experienced in Psychiatry
