Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for conscientious, enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate to join the Gastroenterology Department at Watford General Hospital.

We are seeking a dynamic individual for a Resident Doctor AT1/2 in Gastroenterology - 4 months fixed term post from December 2025 to March 2026.

It is a full time post with on call commitment.

Main duties of the job

Your role will involve continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care, undertaking ward duties, providing evidence-based care for patients in a multi-disciplinary setting and conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Doctors are expected to become competent at organising the day-to-day duties of the clinical areas.

The post-holder will be expected to work closely with appropriate nursing, professional, technical, and administrative and support staff.

The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring adequate clinical notes are made in accordance with good medical practice.

This post is full time Monday- Friday with on call commitments.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Main duties of the post will involve seeing, diagnosing, and treating inpatients, referring to other clinicians or general practitioners where appropriate and providing junior doctor support to its consultant.

Duties in an emergency

There will be provision for junior doctors to join the on-call rota and contribute towards the GIM on call system for a supplemental increase in pay. This can be discussed further at interview.

Medical and Clinical Audit

The department is fully committed to the practice of Medical and Clinical Audit and will be expected to take part in this process.

The department has a programme of continuing quality improvement, in which the post holder may become involved.
