Our client, an established exploration and production company, is seeking a highly skilled Reservoir Simulation Engineer to join their technical team. This critical role, based in Randburg, Gauteng , involves building, calibrating, and running reservoir simulation models to forecast hydrocarbon recovery, optimize field development strategies, and support asset valuation. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of reservoir engineering principles, extensive experience with industry-standard simulation software, and a proven ability to interpret complex reservoir data. We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical professional who can contribute to maximizing the economic value of our assets through sophisticated reservoir modeling. This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects within the Oil & Gas industry .
Develop, initialize, and calibrate static and dynamic reservoir simulation models using industry-leading software. Perform numerical simulations to predict reservoir performance under various development scenarios. Analyze simulation results to understand reservoir behavior, identify risks, and optimize production strategies. Work closely with geologists, petrophysicists, and production engineers to integrate data and assumptions into models. Generate detailed reports and presentations communicating simulation results and recommendations to management and technical teams. Assist in the planning and design of data acquisition programs (e.g., well tests, core analysis) to support model refinement. Evaluate the impact of different recovery methods (e.g., EOR) using simulation tools. Stay current with advancements in reservoir simulation technology and methodologies. Ensure all modeling work adheres to company standards and best practices for the Randburg region.
Master's degree or PhD in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in reservoir engineering with a strong focus on reservoir simulation. Proficiency in using commercial reservoir simulation software packages (e.g., Eclipse, Petrel RE, CMG, Intersect). Solid understanding of reservoir physics, fluid flow in porous media, and numerical methods. Experience with history matching and uncertainty analysis. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment. Familiarity with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, VBA) is a plus.
