About the Role:

The role is fundamental to delivery of reserving in a coordinated, robust and rigorous fashion. The “Reserving Actuary - Controller" reports to the Reserving Controller, supporting them in facilitating the LII & LMRe reserving process right through from operations to the reporting of results to management. Further responsibilities are listed below.

About the Department & Team:

The LII & LMRe Reserving team is part of the Global Reserving team within Global Risk Solutions Actuarial & Data Science Solutions. Our team is responsible for actuarial reserving analysis across LII and LMRe businesses providing transparent and independent view of business performance through consistently applied reserving best practice. Acting as independent trusted advisors to the business the team is responsible for objectively communicating the quarterly reserve analyses with insight and confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Priorities
  • Manage the central estimate process, delivering quarterly reserve and margin analysis to the LII & LM Re and GRS senior leadership.
  • Ensure robust outcomes - execute on our control framework including formal controls, and regulatory and audit requirements.
  • Support across the breadth of the quarterly US GAAP reserving process (gross and net of outwards reinsurance) across LII and LMRe globally.
  • Support the transition to the new operating model which will involve close collaboration our stakeholders as well as tactical and strategic process improvement initiatives.
  • Consolidation and collaboration
  • Stakeholders: the broader reserving team, GRS Head Office, Corporate Reserving and the finance function.
  • Act as a trusted independent advisor to the business that communicates the quarterly reserve analyses with insight and confidence, grounded in technical rigor and objectivity.
  • Manage and develop the reporting capabilities of the reserving team to ensure stakeholders have access to the MI and insights needed to improve underwriting outcomes.
  • Support coordination of response to thematic issues e.g. excess economic inflation modelling.
  • Collaborate across GRS Actuarial & Data Science Solutions and partner functions to share knowledge and improve business outcomes, embracing the One GRS culture and the team of teams approach to problem solving.

  • Ensure the quality, accuracy and appropriateness of data and its consistent application in the reserving process.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve processes and controls so LII & LMRe reserving deliverables remain timely, accurate and regulatory‑compliant.

  • Be an inclusive leader committed to mentoring and developing team members to assume progressively senior actuarial and business leadership roles.

Skills and Experience
  • Fellow of the Institute and/or Faculty of Actuaries (or equivalent qualification).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, with commercial awareness to support decisions that align with strategic objectives.
  • Reserving experience in the London Market and broad knowledge of specialty insurance and reinsurance portfolios.
  • Able to manage multiple competing projects and priorities, with strong interpersonal skills to provide effective stakeholder support.
  • Equally comfortable working independently or as part of a broader team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical issues clearly to audiences of differing technical ability and seniority.
  • Self‑motivated, mature and resilient, with a constructive professional attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively through periods of change and transformation
