Job description
Overview

The Core Organic MS Metrology team develops reference methodology and delivers high accuracy calibration and measurement services in support of LGC's role as the UK's National Measurement Laboratory (NML) and Designated Institute for Chemical and Bio-analytical measurements. In addition, the team undertakes contract research and development projects and delivers specialist measurement services for a range of customers in both the public and private sectors. A range of available technologies are utilised within the team, including single and triple quadrupole MS, High Resolution MS (QToF, Orbitrap and IMS) all with associated separation capabilities including HPLC, microflow-HPLC and GC. As a researcher you will gain experience in a range of analytical techniques and develop the skills to perform accurate quantification and structural characterisation of organic compounds to support the metrology research projects and measurement services delivered by the organic MS metrology team.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate for GCMS and LCMSMS methods for the identification of organic species in a range of applications (including environmental, clinical and security)
  • Develop and validate reference methodology for the accurate quantification of organic compounds to support Metrology Programme delivery as well as commercial work
  • Provide cross team support by performing maintenance and optimisation of analytical instrumentation, as well as troubleshooting instrument issues
  • Disseminate results at internal and external meetings and contribute to writing of peer reviewed papers.
