The Opportunity

Avantor is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Research Technician (Translational Pathology) to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you’ll be embedded within a leading Translational Pathology Laboratory, supporting biomarker identification and analysis across multiple drug projects from early discovery through to clinical trials. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in biosciences and laboratory experience to contribute to cutting‑edge translational research in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

This is a full‑time, permanent position based at The Discovery Centre, Bio‑Medical Campus in Cambridge. In addition to a competitive salary, you’ll benefit from working in a state‑of‑the‑art facility alongside a strong core of Avantor colleagues, gaining valuable experience in histopathology, sample management, and digital pathology.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, standard business hours (flexibility required to support service delivery)

The Team

You’ll be part of our business department, Lab and Production Services, which supports major pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry. You’ll join a dedicated team of Research Technicians, Histology Technicians, and Sample Managers delivering specialist support to a Translational Pathology function, contributing to high‑impact research and maintaining operational excellence.

What we’re looking for
  • Degree in bioscience/life sciences or equivalent laboratory experience
  • Hands‑on experience in histopathology, tissue sectioning, and digital slide scanning
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with electronic sample tracking systems
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team
  • Knowledge of the UK Human Tissue Act, COSHH, and SHE policies
How you’ll thrive and create an impact
  • Perform tissue sectioning, slide scanning, and digital image generation for pathology analysis
  • Construct and manage Tissue Micro‑Arrays (TMAs) and maintain xenograft sample inventories
  • Execute routine immunohistochemical staining and support cell culture activities
  • Track and manage human samples using LIMS systems, ensuring accurate data handling
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and consumables, ensuring operational readiness
  • Ensure compliance with SHE, GCP, HTA regulations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
