Job description

The Gwyer Findlay lab investigates how neutrophils affect T cell phenotype. Our work sits at the interface of immunology and inflammation biology and we use a variety of methods in our studies – immunology, molecular biology, computational biology and imaging.

This post is for a technician to help run the lab. The postholder will carry out experiments under the guidance of Dr Gwyer Findlay, and will assist all other team members with their experiments. They will also organise and maintain stocks of reagents and supplies, carry out ordering, organise rotas for cleaning and maintenance of labs and equipment and ensure agreement with sustainability requirements. They will be willing to train as a phlebotomist, taking blood from healthy donors, isolating and culturing cells from that blood, and maintaining exemplary records relating to its collection and storage.

You will ideally hold a BSc in biology or a related discipline, although you may be able to demonstrate lab skills acquired through on-the-job training. You will be able to analyse data, use word-processing and spreadsheet programmes, and maintain databases. You will be highly organised and efficient. You will be a helpful and supportive team-player, helping with experiments being performed by all other team members.
