Job description

A Research Laboratory Technician (CT Scanner Technician) post is available in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge.

The applicant will run the Cambridge Biotomography Centre, a microCT scanning facility housed within the University of Cambridge Museum of Zoology. They will primarily be responsible for operating the facility's imaging machinery, chiefly a Nikon XTEK H 225 ST microCT scanner, as well as overseeing the system's maintenance. They will be responsible for handling and mounting specimens to be imaged, for managing the facility's bookings for internal and external users, and for data processing services as required by clients. Responsibilities will also include recruiting new users for the Cambridge Biotomography Centre within and outside the University, maintaining the Centre's website, charging users in line with the facility's pricing scheme, and managing the facility's data archive.

The successful candidate will interact closely with facility users as well as staff of the University Museum of Zoology. Candidates will need to be highly motivated and develop a good understanding of the nature of the specimens being scanned and the imagery required by clients. Close communication with facility users will be essential, as will careful maintenance of the facility's online database.

Limited funding: The funds for this post are available for up to 2 years.

Due to the nature of this role, it is based entirely on-site.

The role is offered on a part-time basis (20 hours per week).

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
