Job description

This vacancy is only open at this stage to internal employees of the following organisations within the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care System:

  • University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, inclusive of Black Country Procurement Group and North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service.

This will be the case for 7 calendar days from 25/11/2025 to 01/12/2025. Following this the vacancy will be open externally.

Job Purpose

The main purpose of the role is to provide study set up and governance support for all studies undertaken by the Trust, working with the Study Support Team Leader to establish and implement systems and processes for research governance across MPFT, to ensure that research cannot commence without all the relevant regulatory approvals.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Team Leader to guide staff and researchers through the research governance requirements, including the HRA set‑up process and costing and contract co‑ordination, providing a hub and spoke service for R&I governance and liaising with commercial research sponsors in the set‑up of CTIMPs, ensuring proper contract and costings are in place under the direction of the Study Support Team Leader.
  • Be a key member of the Study Support Team, leading in the provision of appropriate advice and support to researchers and research staff on all aspects of research governance and study set‑up, including application processes, ethics application process, contracts and NHS indemnity.
  • Lead commercial trial set‑up, liaising with external research partners to obtain all the necessary information and paperwork required for study set‑up, and support the Team Leader to ensure study contracts are completed and signed in an effective way.
  • Be an expert EDGE user, ensuring data is complete and compliant.
  • Work with the local research team and operational managers to collect local information, identify issues that need resolving and ensure continuous processes, adhering to national targets and requirements.
  • Work with the national and local research teams to track and plan study opening dates with the delivery team.
  • Keep abreast of changes to research governance legislation and organisation and support the Study Support Team Leader in integrating these changes into the systems.
  • Collect and collate all performance data, ensuring correct figures are returned for reports and meetings as required.
  • Assist with preparation and presentation for reviews and inspections.
