Job summary

The University of Oxford is seeking a Finance Officer on a 12-week, 37.5-hour week contract in Oxford. The role focuses on financial management, budgeting, forecasting and reporting to support research and departmental projects.

The position starts ASAP with pay at £18.80 per hour plus holiday pay. Experience with Oracle Financials and Excel, and a solid understanding of funder requirements, is essential.

Qualifications

• Qualified AAT or equivalent financial accountancy qualification.
• Experience in financial administration roles and with computerised financial systems.
• Experience supporting projects, grants or internal funding processes.
• Experience with funding applications or proposals and records.
• Experience maintaining project or financial trackers and deadlines.
• Experience producing financial reports and monitoring budgets.
• Experience processing financial transactions (POs, expenses, journals).
• Ability to interpret policies and maintain compliance and audit readiness.
• Competent with Excel and other Microsoft tools.

Responsibilities

• Support budgets for Departmental funding applications and ensure sponsor compliance.
• Coordinate internal funding applications, maintain records of applications and awards.
• Assist with project initiation, setup, monitoring, amendments and closure.
• Maintain project portfolios, trackers, deadlines and actions.
• Coordinate administration between PIs, Finance, Grants, HR and funders.
• Prepare monthly financial reporting and funder claims, monitor deadlines.
• Monitor spend against budgets and ensure eligible expenditure.
• Validate coding, cost eligibility and supporting documentation.
• Oversee processing of financial expenditure including POs and journals.
• Support monthly accounting tasks for student payments and fee invoices.
• Assist with quarterly forecasting and budgeting on nominated accounts.
• Support financial closure of departmental projects and audits.
