A leading academic institution in Birmingham is seeking a Research Fellow in the School of Computer Science. The successful candidate will work on a project involving new algebraic structures for computational effects, contribute to writing funding bids, and oversee research initiatives. A first degree and a higher degree relevant to the research area are required, along with strong analytical capabilities. This role offers a competitive salary and is on a full-time fixed-term contract until June 2029.

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £36,636 to £46,049 with potential progression once in post to £48,822

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within an established research programme and/or specific research project.
The successful candidate will contribute to the project “New algebraic structures for computational effects”, led by Dr Paul Levy (University of Birmingham), which aims to develop categorical and denotational semantics for general effects, for stateful effects in particular and for polymorphism in effectful languages. The project will involve categorical structures, call‑by‑push‑value and game semantics, so any background in these and related areas would be valuable.
