Job summary

Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Research Trial Manager to work on the PETAL (Personalised treatment packages for adults with learning disabilities who display aggression in community settings) research programme, funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR)'s Programme Grants for Applied Science (PGAR). It is conducted in collaboration with University College London and is led by Professor Angela Hassiotis, professor of psychiatry of intellectual disabilities and consultant psychiatrist at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based at University College London, where the study lead works.

About us

The post will involve the coordination and management of all aspects of a clinical trial that will recruit from NHS community intellectual disability services across three countries (England, Scotland and Northern Ireland). You will be provided with an induction to working for Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, and supervision in your role will be provided by the Chief Investigator.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the coordination of the clinical trial and provide strategic, tactical and operational management for planning and execution of the project.
  • Demonstrate flair, enthusiasm, innovation and leadership when faced with challenges.
  • Communicate and present effectively; organise and motivate team members; work with the programme manager and co-applicants to deliver the trial.
  • Carry out qualitative interviews with a proportion of stakeholders as required.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • First degree (2:1 or higher) in a relevant health or social science
  • Project management qualifications or proven relevant skills

Desirable

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in a health-related subject or equivalent research experience

Experience

Essential

  • Personal experience of working with or contact with people who have complex mental health needs and/or intellectual disability
  • Experience of conducting high quality academic research using methods mentioned in Job Description

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to facilitate liaising with internal and external colleagues in setting up, administering and managing the trial

Knowledge

Essential

  • In-depth awareness of key research issues (systematic reviews and meta-analyses, synthesis of evidence, quantitative and qualitative data analysis)
