About the role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate (Statistician) to join our dynamic team in the Department of Psychology. This position offers an exciting opportunity to provide expert statistical support across a diverse portfolio of complex intervention trials evaluating psychological and behavioural interventions.

You will work closely with researchers to plan, monitor, analyse, and report on clinical trials, while also providing expert statistical advice for other types of studies within the department and with external collaborators.

As a Research Associate, you will play a key role in the design of complex intervention trials, contributing to protocol development, advising on experimental design and sample size calculations, and ensuring robust methodological approaches. You will co‑author statistical analysis plans, undertake sophisticated analyses, and prepare reports for trial steering committees and data monitoring committees. Your expertise will be vital in supporting grant applications, helping researchers to develop strong statistical methodologies for funding proposals.

Working within the vibrant research culture of the School of Mental Health and Psychological Sciences, you will engage with the King's Clinical Trials Unit and benefit from connections with the large community of statisticians across King's health faculties. This collaborative network provides excellent opportunities for professional development, knowledge sharing, and staying current with innovative methodologies.

There are opportunities to lead research projects aligned with your interests and to engage in dissemination activities, including presenting at conferences and contributing to high‑impact publications. The postholder will be responsible to a senior statistician and will work within a supportive environment that values academic growth and collaborative working.

This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/12/2027.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

• MSc in medical statistics, biostatistics, or a related discipline with substantial statistical content
• Expertise in medical statistics and knowledge of clinical trial design, particularly for complex interventions
• Proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., R, Python, or Stata)
• Experience of dealing with common methodological challenges in medical research (e.g., missing data, clustered data, longitudinal analysis)
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• PhD (or nearing completion) in a related field
• Experience of working as a medical statistician on one or more randomised controlled trials, particularly complex interventions or psychological/behavioural trials
• Experience of undertaking research in mental health or psychological interventions
• Experience of presenting findings at local, national and/or international meetings and publication in peer‑reviewed journals
